A Creative Outlet

(I think this picture is so nerdy...and I appreciate that since I'm a nerd myself.)

My husband is constantly telling me to "write about it." Every time I complain about something or mention a story or article I've read. Write about it.

I've heard the first lesson of writing is "write what you know." I think it's a pretty good place to start, but I also believe that (for me) writing is a way to escape. That's why I love writing fantasy...you escape into your own world and your characters' adventures.

I know every author is different, but sometimes I think "write what you know" isn't right.

What do you think? Do you find yourself writing about something you've experienced? Or would you rather make something up?
